The Esperance Nyungar Doll-Making project is about to start!
This community project is open to everyone and there is no cost to participate. Beginners and experts are welcome. The initial workshops will take place over three days from Monday 31st October - Wednesday 2nd November. They will be run by visiting Noongar artists from Narrogin, Geri Hayden and Marcelle Riley. They use simple doll-making techniques used in Noongar families for decades. Materials are provided and follow up workshops will be coordinated by local facilitators. The project runs over 12 months, with 4 visits from Geri & Marcelle. Participants can make as many dolls as they wish and these can be presented at the end of he project in a formal exhibition. The project is funded by Department of Culture and the Arts through their Community Engagment program. It is being run in partnership with Escare and with support from Johnine Graham in her role at WACHS. These workshops have developed out of the Yarns of the Heart project run by Community Arts Network WA.
