About the Project
The Act-Belong-Commit Nyungar Boodja Plants and Culture Community Presentation was a very special opportunity to learn more about plants and their uses at Dempster Head. It was held with Esperance Tjaltjraak Native Title Aboriginal Corporation rangers and members of the Esperance Wildflower Society on Wednesday 18th September 2019. The Esperance Tjaltjraak Native Title Aboriginal Corporation rangers also held school sessions during the Festival.
Presented by Esperance Tjaltjraak Native Title Aboriginal Corporation with support from Esperance Wildflower Society and Esperance Community Arts.
Following on from the sessions at the Esperance Wildlflower Festival, Esperance Tjaltjraak Native Title Aboriginal Corporation Rangers and Esperance Wildflower Society botanist Ken Mills have been delivering a fantastic series of education sessions to schools over the last two months.
They have visited Nulsen Primary School, Esperance Senior High School and Castletown Primary School and are running another session next week at Esperance Anglican Community School, all as part of the Act-Belong-Commit Kaddatji Nyungar Boodja Plants and Culture program.
They also ran community sessions at the Nulsen in November Family Fun Day.
By the end of this school term over 800 students and community members will have had the opportunity to learn the Nyungar names and uses for a selection of culturally significant plant and insect species and to look at some specimens of these plants under the microscope.
